Then he arose and rebuked the wind, and said to the sea, "Peace, be still." And the wind ceased and there was a great calm. Mark 4:39
The powerful message of Jesus stilling the storm in Mark 4:35-41 is still relevant today as we consider the unforeseen circumstances in our own lives. Time and time I have found myself in circumstances that I am less than being still. In most of the circumstances that I have faced, I have experienced, fear, doubt, anxiety, I lose confidence in myself, or lack of sleep as my mind stir to finding a resolve to my circumstances.
So, how can I tell you to be still? Well, let's get back to the story of Jesus and his disciples in Mark 4: 35-41 where a raging storm overwhelmed them as they were at sea and Jesus was asleep all while this was taking place. How could he be asleep? Did he not feel the boat raging out of control, or the roaring sea beating against the boat to wake him up from his sleep? The disciples at that moment I am sure felt alone and afraid even while they knew the savior was with them. When Jesus awoke, he simply command the storm, "Peace, be still?" Mark 4:39. Can you believe it? Its that simple. May not be so for the disciples, but certainly for Jesus he is confident that he can command the seas to be still with the help of his father.
This story teaches us that we are not alone in whatever we are facing. Every crisis, adversity, or trials you may be facing is in our father's care. He knows it all too well. We can be still because his power is constantly at work in our lives ruling over every circumstances. Sure, it may not work out the way that we desire, or the timing that we expect, but we can expect a breakthrough. We can expect victory. We can trust God to move in our lives. We can exercise our faith muscles to be confident in our father. We can be still.
Father, thank you for your word its a lamp to our feet even as we see the miracle that you perform at sea. We are confident that you are performing this same miracle in our lives as we wait confidently on you to work in through our circumstances. We will let our mind be in you and be still in the name of Jesus amen.
